Stampin' Up! Amazing Silhouettes ~ Birthday Card

Today's card was inspired by my Stamp Set of the Week ~ Amazing Silhouettes and Sunday Stamps Challenge 299, which happens to be a color challenge.  The photo below shows the challenge colors and inspiration photo.

I interpreted these colors as Night of Navy, Rich Razzleberry, Flirty Flamingo, So Saffron and Smoky Slate.  Although, I do think Gorgeous Grape could be subbed for the Rich Razzleberry.

I started by using the mask on the card base.  I like to use some kind of removable tape to hold down my card base and the mask.  For the card base, I doubled over a piece of the tape and placed it behind it to hold it to my grid paper.  Then, I placed four pieces of tape around the edges of the mask to keep it from moving.  Washi tape works for this, but this time I chose to use this Scotch Delicate Surface Tape we had left over from a painting project.  I used a Blending Brush to blend Smoky Slate ink over the card front.

The image was stamped with Versamark, then Heat Embossed with White Embossing Powder.  After that, I used Sponge Daubers to add the colors.  Keep a microfiber cloth handy to wipe off excess ink between each color.

A fun option is to use the mask again for the inside of the card, keeping it pretty light and fading away completely near the top.  This is also a great way to decorate the flap of the envelope. I do recommend going a little darker on the envelope flap.
